A WhatsApp group or Mosaikin for your event photos?

A WhatsApp group is great for chat. For event photos it has gaps: everyone needs the app and has to be added, photos go out in Standard quality unless the sender picks HD, and they arrive among the messages with nothing checked first. Mosaikin gives the event one checked album, joined from a QR code.

Built in the UK, for UK celebrations. Run under UK law, with safeguarding built in as standard: every photo is checked before it is shown, and we report what the law says we must. You keep the lot, and share it as and when you like in a digital guestbook and album.

Where WhatsApp is the better tool

Conversation. If the point is chatting before and after the day, a group chat does that well and Mosaikin does not try to. Plenty of hosts use both: the group for the chat, and the Mosaikin link pinned in it for the photos.

Where a group chat falls short for an event

  • Not everyone is in it. The plus-ones, the colleagues and the friend of a friend are rarely in the group, and adding them means collecting numbers.
  • Quality is left to each sender. Photos and videos go out in Standard quality unless the person sending chooses HD.
  • Nothing is checked. Whatever a member sends appears for everyone at once; an admin can remove it afterwards, within two days.
  • There is no album. The photos sit in the chat between the messages, and gathering them afterwards is a job for someone.

Those are exactly the jobs Mosaikin is built for. Guests scan one code, every photo is checked before it is shown, and the host keeps the whole album. See how it works, how to share photos from a party in one album, and Is Mosaikin safe? for what the checks are.

The occasions where the group chat is usually the alternative: parties, corporate events, schools and large events.

Questions people ask

Why not just use a WhatsApp group for wedding photos?

You can, and for a small group it works. The gaps show at an event: not every guest is in the group, photos go out in Standard quality unless the sender picks HD, nothing is checked before everyone sees it, and the photos end up scattered through the chat.

Can I use Mosaikin and a WhatsApp group together?

Yes. Share the Mosaikin link or QR code in the group, and guests tap it to add their photos to the event’s album.

Does Mosaikin compress photos?

Photos longer than 4096 pixels on their longest edge are resized in the browser before upload; a typical phone photo below that passes through at its own size. Every photo is re-saved without its camera metadata.

Do guests need WhatsApp or any other app to use Mosaikin?

No. Guests use their phone’s browser, with no app and no account.
