Safety & child protection

How content is checked before anyone sees it, what we do about child sexual abuse material, and how anyone can report something.

This document is with our lawyers for final review. Still to be confirmed: the effective date.

The legal pages are published as one set, so every page carries this notice until the last detail is confirmed. Anything this page quotes that is still outstanding is marked below.

If you need any of it now, email hello@mosaikin.app and we will tell you.

Mosaikin hosts the memories of real events — weddings, birthdays, family occasions. Children appear in those memories, and guests who upload are often anonymous. We designed the platform on the assumption that safety cannot be an afterthought. This page explains, plainly, what we do.

1. How content gets into a gallery

  1. Private by default. Events are invite-only; a gallery is public only if the host deliberately makes it so.
  2. Every contribution is checked before it can appear. Photos and guestbook entries pass automated safety scanning, which runs on Google Cloud Vision and Natural Language. There is no path to the public gallery that skips the check.
  3. Doubt means human review. Content the scanner is unsure about is held for the event host to review. If a safety check cannot run at all, content waits — the system fails closed, never open.
  4. Hosts can choose. Hosts can choose to review everything before it appears (Require approval), and can hide or remove any contribution and remove guests’ access at any time.
  5. Location metadata (EXIF/GPS) is stripped from photos before a servable copy exists — guests can’t accidentally publish where a photo was taken.

2. Child sexual abuse material: zero tolerance

  • Detected material is blocked and quarantined — it never appears anywhere, and staff do not view it; we act on the detection signal and metadata.
  • We report detected child sexual exploitation and abuse content to the National Crime Agency as The Online Safety (CSEA Content Reporting) Regulations 2026 require, preserving evidence for the mandated periods.
  • Accounts involved are terminated and referred to law enforcement.

If a child is in immediate danger, call 999.

Then report the content to us — the Report control on any photo or guestbook entry, or safety@mosaikin.app.

3. Reporting content

Anyone can report content — you don’t need an account, and this includes people who appear in a photo but never used Mosaikin:

  • use the Report control on any photo or guestbook entry; or
  • email safety@mosaikin.app with a link or description.

Illegal-content reports are prioritised. We tell you the outcome unless the law prevents it. If we get a removal decision wrong, you can appeal — see the complaints procedure in our Terms.

Two help pages are written for the people this matters most to: one for young people under 18, with the Report control walked through and the support lines a child can call, and one for parents and carers, with how to have a photo of your child taken down or their data erased.

4. What we don’t do

  • No facial recognition; no biometric profiles.
  • No selling of personal data; no third-party advertising.
  • No “verify by viewing”: suspected illegal material is never opened by staff — it is acted on and reported from the detection signal.
