How are reports and flagged content decided?

Our moderation policy: who decides, in what order, how quickly, what the rules are, and how to appeal — for hosts, moderators and Mosaikin alike.

Three things put content in front of a person: the safety check holds it (Flagged), the event’s Require approval setting holds it, or someone reports it. This is the policy every reviewer works to, whether that is you, a moderator you invited, or Mosaikin’s own staff. The Acceptable Use Policy is the rule book; this page is how it is applied.

Who decides. The host and the moderators they invite decide everything at their own event. Mosaikin’s staff can act on any event, and do so when a host cannot or will not, or when the host is the person complained about. Complaints and appeals sent by email are decided by Mosaikin’s accountable person, and a second review is by someone who took no part in the first decision.

In what order. Reports about child safety or illegal content come first: the reported-content queue marks them Priority and shows them at the top. Everything else is reviewed oldest first. Nothing the safety check has held is ever published without a person looking at it.

  • Child-safety and illegal-content reports: a first review within 48 hours. The host sees the report at once; Mosaikin checks the platform-wide count every working day and steps in on any report still open after 48 hours. One clock is the law’s, not ours: content named in an intimate image content report must come down within 48 hours of the report, so such a report is acted on, not only reviewed, inside it.
  • Every other report: reviewed within 7 days. Anything still open after 7 days is Mosaikin’s to review.
  • Flagged photos and messages: before they are published, by the host or a moderator, and never automatically.
  • Appeals and complaints by email: acknowledged within 2 working days and decided within 14 days, with reasons.

How to decide. Judge the content against the Acceptable Use Policy, not against taste. Illegal content and anything that puts a child at risk is removed at once, kept as evidence and reported where the law requires; you never need to look closely at it to do that. If you are not sure, hide it and ask: a hidden photo can be published again, and a published one cannot be unseen. A rejected report needs written reasons, because the reporter is told them. Nothing the safety check has not cleared can be published, and content it has blocked is never shown to anyone.

What people are told. The person whose content was reported is never told who reported it. A reporter who left an email address is told the outcome and the reasons; a reporter who left none hears nothing, by their choice.

If a decision is reversed. A hidden photo is published again and a held message approved, by you, a moderator or Mosaikin. Content the safety check blocked cannot be restored, so a wrongly blocked message is written again.

These targets are Mosaikin’s too

The 48-hour, 7-day and 14-day targets are the ones Mosaikin reports against under the Online Safety Act. Where a host does not act in time, Mosaikin does.
