What kinds of photo and video can I upload?

Photos are stored as JPEG or PNG and videos as MP4, MOV or WebM; other picture formats are converted in your browser where they can be.

  • Photos — JPEG and PNG.
  • Videos — MP4, MOV (the format iPhones record) and WebM (what Android Chrome captures).

If you are on an iPhone, your photos are probably HEIC. You do not need to do anything: iOS converts them to JPEG as you pick them, because the picker is told we accept JPEG and PNG.

Another picture format — a WebP saved from the web, say — is converted to JPEG in your own browser before it is sent. If your browser cannot read the file at all, that tile says “Format not supported” rather than failing silently.

Screenshots, scans and downloads are fine

Nothing checks that a picture came from a camera. If it opens on your phone, it will almost certainly upload.
